LOW POTASSIUM FOODS

LEACHING

  • Done to reduce potassium in food
  • Eg: Mushroom, spinach, kale, broccoli
  • Method:
    • Peel vegetables and soak in water for 1 hour
    • Cut them again and soak in water for 4-5 hours and drain them
    • Wash them in water and cook in excess water.
    • Drain the excess water before eating

PHOSPHORUS

  • Foods rich in Phosphorus to be avoided or taken in limited quantities
    • Milk & Paneer
    • Nuts, whole wheat, bajra, jowar
    • Pulses & Dals
    • Red Meat
  • Masoor dal and soya paneer is lower in phosphorus
